Akhilesh Srivastava Awarded Vishwakarma Award for Lifetime Achievement Chief General Manager of the NHAI’s Highway Operations & IT division, Akhilesh Srivastava, was recently awarded the CIDC Vishwakarma Award (VKA) for lifetime achievement as a Public Officer at the 10th Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) Vishwakarma Awards 2018 in New Delhi. Vishwakarma awards felicitate the works of individuals and organizations in contributing to the welfare of the people and building the nation. Each year, the CIDC awards are conducted in the month of March, and this year they were held at Stein Auditorium in New Delhi on 7th March 2018. CGM Akhilesh Srivastava implemented various projects such as Electronic Toll Collection (ETC), Wayside Amenities (WSA), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), and UAVs and LiDARs for highway projects in India. He is well- known for gradually modernizing the highways sector in the country. The CGM of the NHAI plans, manages, monitors, and executes all projects under the division. With his expertise, Srivastava has supervised small- to large-scale megaprojects and has worked towards achieving sustainable growth for the sector. In every project, including tolling, the NHAI projects in-charge integrated technology and implemented the use of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) and industrial drones in the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). The national highways agency chief, Srivastava, has helped the government bring transparency to and ease in tolling by enabling automatic fee deduction at Toll gates. The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system launched by CGM Srivastava is mitigating traffic jams at Toll plazas and saving fuel. He paved the way for Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) in India. To monitor the highway operations in real-time, Srivastava is currently developing a 24x7 video surveillance command and control centre.

To enhance dispute resolution mechanism in the highway sector, Srivastava introduced ODR system, which uses advanced technology to resolve contract disputes between various parties in the construction field. The NHAI’s CGM has successfully deployed the Project Management & Information System (PMIS) with GIS tracking facility. The PMIS project will help in monitoring highway operations. Mr Srivastava delivered phenomenal outputs for his projects and has been appointed to take care of new verticals within his division. He designed and implemented e-tendering for the Ministry of Defence. He also introduced the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) for the smart use of highway networks. Besides the Vishwakarma lifetime achievement award, Akhilesh Srivastava also won several other accolades from national and international personalities for innovations in the highways sector. The NHAI CGM dedicated over a decade of his life to the development of roads, highway systems, and commuter experience. Akhilesh Srivastava is also introducing Web Radio, Wi-Fi connectivity, solar energy panels, green belts, and more on the National Highways in the country. Recognising these and other contributions and the hard work of Akhilesh Srivastava, the CIDC conferred the Vishwakarma award for Lifetime Achievement on him. This award reflects the achievements of Srivastava for Indian roads and highways.
