  1. Comparing the Best in MBBS Abroad in the Current Situation As of the date of writing this post, Russia and Ukraine are in the midst of an armed conflict, if not a full-blown war. Only time will say what the impact will be on the educational sector; but for now, both these countries are great prospects for MBBS Abroad. Thus, the focus of this post shall exactly be on this particular aspect and shall compare how these 2 prospects stand against each other. In this “comparison” of sorts, our focus shall be on the quality and affordability offered by institutions on both sides. Affordability The biggest concern in the minds of students and parents is the budget, as a result, the fee of universities is their top consideration. The India-Russia Currency rate slightly favors the Indian Rupee (INR 1 = 1.15 Rouble), which makes Russia an attractive destination, especially for Indians. What this also means is that the fee of Russian medical universities is relatively affordable for Indian students. The MBBS in Russia fees begins as low as INR 14 Lakh, and on average, it ranges around INR 25 Lakh across all the top and prestigious universities. On the other hand, Ukraine may not have such a currency system favoring India (1 Hryvnia = INR 2.55) but the fee is definitely quite affordable. Considering the most sought-after universities here, the MBBS in Ukraine fees begin at INR 20 Lakh. At most, it can go up to INR 26 Lakh. All these amounts are inclusive of the tuition, accommodation, and other miscellaneous charges levied by the university. None of these prospects charge any donations or capitation fees in addition to the above numbers.

  2. Visa Formalities One of the most important determinants for an individual’sMBBS abroad journey is the “Visa”. Both Russia and Ukraine have a Visa Process that is largely online. The only difference is that while Russia offers a “completely” online process for the Visa, Ukraine doesn’t. The only time an individual needs to appear for avisa for MBBS in Ukraine is for the “biometric scanning”, the day after which the visa arrives. Both the visas are valid for a total of 90 days. As far as the visa for MBBS in Russia is concerned, students aren’t required to submit any kind of bank statement. However, an HIV and Covid-19 report is mandatory nonetheless. A Russian student visa takes lesser time as compared to one from Ukraine. While the former takes around 5-6 Business days, the latter now takes 10-15 days (due to the physical reporting of students). Adherence to NMC Gazette Apart from the top-notch academics, pedagogy, and practical education, another factor that makes both these prospects similar is their adherence to the NMC Gazette 2021. This makes both degrees valid in India. The conditions that they fulfill include - 1.The Curriculum is taught entirely in English 2.The course duration is a total of 6 years (5-year course + 1-year internship). This is more than the minimum prescribed duration by the NMC (min. 4.5-year course + 1-year internship) 3.Both nations have NMC-approved medical colleges, which also makes the students passing out from there eligible for the Indian licentiate exam i.e. the NEXT Exam. Encapsulating all that has been said above, it would be safe to say that both these prospects are good options for MBBS abroad. Though the situation currently is quite volatile in Ukraine, the armed conflict hasn’t escalated to a full-blown war.

  3. Russia on the other hand is unaffected by this war, and the students are safe here. As far as Ukraine is concerned, if there is a timely intervention by global bodies like the UN, Amnesty International, and others, Ukraine too will be restored back to normalcy.
