In Singapore, there are different types of preschool for the children under 6 years of age. The children attending the Primary-1 at 6 years of age are expected to have a few skills, such as  Cognitive skills (ability to count and read)  Participating in goal-based activities and having the ability to - 1.Perform at the end of lessons related to performing arts 2.Initiate and maintain interaction with peers 3.Follow teachers’ or mentors’ instructions The learning environment at a Montessori centre prepares the children for Primary-1 and helps them with learning -  How to complete the tasks in an organised manner  How to make a decision  The importance of take up and fulfilling responsibility In Singapore, a working mother, whose child is enrolled in a childcare/infant-care centre with ECDA license, is eligible to receive a basis subsidy for the child’s education. If a family’s gross monthly income, inclusive of all benefits, is less than S$7,500, then a working mother is eligible to receive additional subsidy for their child’s education along with the basic subsidy. There is opportunity for every child to receive early childhood education Singapore irrespective of the family’s financial condition and learning in a preschool may benefit a child in different ways. Children learn to follow directions since this skill has to be mastered by children over time. Children learn to follow basic hygiene routine and learn to take care of their belongings. Children learn to navigate through the operations of classroom. Children develop social and emotional skills. Children learn through playing which encourages physical, psychological and social growth. The structured learning program in kindergarten strengthens the intelligence of the kids.
