  1. Lithium Solid State and The Advantages Reliable, long lasting energy storage using lithium ion batteries has changed the world over the past few years. Battery technology companies are always looking for ways to improve the lithium battery. One advancement is the development of lithium solid state batteries. Lithium ion batteries use ionic lithium that crosses the electrolyte barrier, working between the anode and cathode. The electrolyte is liquid and is considered a fire risk. The lithium solid state battery, on the other hand, uses a solid electrolyte to regulate the lithium ions. The difference between the existing lithium ion battery and the lithium solid state battery is the electrolyte. Each battery comprises of two electrodes, the negative and positive (anode and cathode). These two are made of electric conductive materials. Set between these electrodes is an electrolyte, which comprises of electrically charged particals or ions. The electrolyte allows the ions to travel through it, combining with the cathode or anode, depending is you are discharging or charging. This is a chemical reaction, allowing the flow of electrical charge between the positive and negative through a circuit, this allows the battery to generate an electrical current that powers your device. When the device is connected to a battery, a chemical reaction will occur between the cathode, anode and electrolyte, which creates an electrical energy that powers the device. Lithium ion batteries use liquid electrolytes to regulate the current, where lithium solid state batteries use solid electrolytes and this will make a major difference moving forward. There are numerous benefits to lithium solid state battery technology. Solid electrolytes provide a higher energy density, improve safety and increase life span. The lithium solid state batteries are lightweight with high energy density. Lithium solid state batteries will be able to deliver 2.5 times more energy than the current lithium ion batteries. They will be able to recharge up to six times faster than the current technologies and they can recharge safer. Safety is essential when it comes to battery technology. Liquid electrolytes in lithium ion batteries are volatile and a serious fire risk. The electrodes cannot be exposed to air.
