  1. Matthew 2:13-23

  2. the power of evil the suffering of the innocent the overruling of God Mysteries…

  3. Mystery 1: the power of evil

  4. Jesus was exposed to danger and uncertainty from his earliest infancy. Why? Jesus’ life made him someone who understands us perfectly Jesus’ life made him the perfect rescuer for human beings

  5. In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered. Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Hebrews 2:10-11

  6. Jesus was exposed to danger and uncertainty from his earliest infancy. Why? Jesus’ life made him someone who understands us perfectly Jesus’ life made him the perfect rescuer for human beings Jesus’ life shows us what his followers can expect

  7. If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. John 15:18-20

  8. Mystery 2: the suffering of the innocent

  9. The massacre of the innocents… WHAT IT SHOWS ABOUT HEROD WHAT IT SHOWS ABOUT LIFE WHAT IT SHOWS ABOUT GOD He wanted to be in charge He wanted to matter He wanted to be secure There was no warning There was no fairness There was no justice God works amid sorrow and grief God cares when hearts break God will wipe away tears

  10. Mystery 3: the overruling of God

  11. Your ways, O God, are holy. What God is so great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles… Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footsteps were not seen. Psalm 77:13-19
