AP STATISTICS COURSE • The purpose of the AP course in Statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. • FOUR broad conceptual themes will be covered: • Sampling and Experimentation (planning and conducting a • study) • Exploring Data (describing patterns and departures from • patterns) • Anticipating Patterns (exploring random phenomena using • probability and simulation) • Statistical Inference (estimating population parameters and • testing hypotheses)
AP STATISTICS TEST • 3 hour exam on afternoon of Wednesday, May 13th, 2015 • (after AP English language exam) • 40 MC (90 minutes), 6 FR (90 minutes) • all AP exams are scored from 1 through 5, • with a score of 3 or higher considered an honor score • at PRHS: • May 2014: 98% honor scores (average: 4.137) • May 2013: 96% honor scores (average: 4.000) • May 2012: 100% honor scores (average: 4.24) • May 2011: 98% honor scores (average: 4.186)
GRADING POLICY • Quarter grades are calculated as follows: • 80% summative • demonstrate mastery of learning targets • 20% formative • in-progress learning activities • Resubmissions are allowed on most summative projects and • assignments. • No retakes on summative chapter tests, but if student meets • certain announced criteria, a quarter exam can replace the lowest chapter test score.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? • check my GoogleCalendar and webpage for important dates and documents • make sure that child is: • working on and submitting study guide assignments from textbook that reinforce learning targets • reading corresponding sections in textbook • completing review packets before summative chapter tests • check Skyward Family Access for updated grades (at least once a week) • please e-mail or call at any time with any questions or concerns
FINAL THOUGHTS… I firmly believe that every student in my class: • belongs here, • should expect to work hard, • needs to ask for help whenever and wherever needed (free periods 5, 6, 8 (MWF), after school), and • deserves to do exceptionally well. EVERY STUDENT CAN AND WILL LEARN … SUCCESSFULLY!
