  1. 10 Reasons Causing Drop in Your Site’s Traffic

  2. 1) Changes in Google’s Algorithm • Google keeps changing its algorithm in order to improve the strategies and results. • The changes in Google algorithm hurt many websites and thus suffer from lower site rankings. • place a strong cross-channel marketing and traffic strategy including all marketing channels along with social media.

  3. 2) Google Also Makes Natural Changes • These changes also cause the drop in your website ranking. • You can use HubSpot’s Website Grader, Moz’s Pro Tools, and UpCity’s SEO Report Card for checking website ranking.

  4. 3) Geolocation Divergence • The ranking could be different depending upon the location of the search made. • If you go through your rankings in one geolocation, you’ll have to check in other areas to get more defined and accurate understanding of your rankings. • There will be different results for a search when logged in and logged out to Google. • The reason is that Google will see and take into account sites previously visited by the user, where you’re located and the device used before bringing up your search results.

  5. 4) Problems in Server • Server issues also cause the ranking drop and that may happen due to a broken caching function or an empty markup fetched to Googlebot. • You should resolve any server issues as quickly as possible. • If you’ve any error in your server logs and use Google’s Fetch and Render tool to test how a URL is being crawled on your site.

  6. 5) Spammy Links Bring Penalties for Your Site • Google penalizes all spammy or outdated linking building strategies. • Google makes it clear that it would be considered as a low-quality link in the first para on their search console help section called Link Schemes.

  7. 6) Click-Through Rate Gets Dropped • CTR or click-through rate is something highly considered by a website. • If your website’s CTR has dropped, go through the Google Search Console for the last 90 days. • A low CTR also signifies that your bounce rate would be high. • This would be because users would be clicking through to your site but leave immediately as they won’t get desired content.

  8. 7) You’re Behind Wrong Rankings • Keywords and searching patterns are something two sides of the same coin. • Today, search engines don’t rely on few keywords; rather employ complete sentences with more natural flavor to rank the websites. • Use keyword tools like SEMrush or Google Keyword planner to find the latest set of keywords.

  9. 8) Lost Links • Among various reasons for the drop in site ranking, lost links also play a major part. • Use tools like Majestic or Ahrefs to check your site for lost links for over the last 90 days.

  10. 9) Broken Redirect Links • You may have seen people build a new website or migrate to a new server and lose their website ranking. • Along with a 301-redirect, ensure you’re also updating XML sitemaps, canonical tags, and links. • If you use 301-redirect plan, you won’t lose your website ranking as well as won’t get penalized for duplicate content.

  11. 10) Slow Page Speed • Use Google’s PageSpeed Tool to check the page loading speed of your site. • If it’s slow, apply tactics to improve the speed and provide better user experience to reduce bad user experience.
