  1. Zone If you could move all your teachers into the of your very best teachers… How BIG would that be? Let’s take a look at ten needs and benefits behind the design of this affordable, effective program of continuous professional development.

  2. “Research suggests that professional development is most effective when it addresses the concrete everyday challenges involved in teaching.” (JSD, Spring 2009)

  3. Need: A more comprehensive PD focus The program is built around four professional learning pillars that address the heart of instruction, assessment and professional behavior. The material is new every year, yet carefully selected to be timely and relevant every week of the school year.

  4. Need: Flexibility to fit with various other PD activities (PLC’s) The beauty of The Master Teacher Pd Program is in the fact that it’s robust yet highly flexible. The weekly training modules, reflect and connect activities, and the strong research base can be integrated in a variety of ways.

  5. Need: Strong research grounding The program uses research to back each weekly module and the sources are cited on the bottom. The Principal’s planners were designed with every aspect of “best practice” in mind so they take the guesswork out of planning.

  6. Need: Time efficient, yet impactful The weekly training modules are short, but contain practical applications, and focused, tested, effective content. The program reflects the way people learn – incrementally, with reinforcement, real-life applications and ongoing coaching.

  7. Need: Support for Principal’s as learning leaders The program provides the planning tools principals need to lead, and the practical content makes leading easier. The desk reference, quarterly webinars and the Northstar Brief offer additional support.

  8. Need: Support local improvement goals and accountability The desk reference, action plans, goal tracking, and optional assessment can frame or support local goals and provide documentation for accountability. For online customers the authoring tool helps districts develop their own PD to meet local and district needs.

  9. Need: Fit into the larger picture of PD in the organization The variety of lessons each month gives administrators a wealth of choices to integrate with local PD goals and activities.

  10. Need: Access to wider variety of funding sources Research based lessons provide the accountability and documentation to tap state and federal funding. The program, once primarily a discretionary funds purchase, now qualifies for Title I, Title II, Title V, and ARRA funding.

  11. Need: Tools to prove learning/effectiveness Optional on-line assessments can be used to document staff useage, engagement, and growth. Also, online customers have a post-test built in at the end of each online module to automatically test knowledge and track credit earned.

  12. Need: Stimulate professional collaboration The reflect and connect activities built into each module are conversation and collaboration starters on which principals can build. “When all teachers in a school learn together, all students in the school benefit.”(JSD, Spring 2009)
