  1. Health Agenda Goal #9b. Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Progress to Date • State and CDC accepted recommendations from DPS and others to add health indicators related to nutrition, physical activity and marijuana use. • DPS secured funding and support from state and city to implement district-wide survey administration in fall 2011. • Completed selection of random sample of schools.

  2. Health Agenda Goal #9b. Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Measurements to Date • Sample for fall 2011 includes 12 schools. • Incentive for schools will range from $250-400. • Includes students in grades 9 and 11, with possible expansion to include grades 6 and 8, in order to compare with District-level data collected in 2008.

  3. Health Agenda Goal #9b. Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Other Developments and Implications • In fall 2010, DPS and the Denver Office of Drug Strategy attempted to recruit 6 high schools to participate in the HKCS as part of a statewide initiative to prevent binge drinking, with a focus on Latinos. Efforts were unsuccessful in fall 2010 and spring 2011. Two schools agreed to participate, but there was not enough time remaining in the school year. If this is an indicator for school participation in fall 2011, DPS will not get weighted data.

  4. Health Agenda Goal #9b. Healthy Kids Colorado Survey Immediate Next Steps • Identify District figurehead to support the HKCS. • Contact principals at selected schools. • Work with DoTS to pull class schedules for selected schools. • Identify school-level contact persons to schedule survey administration.
