For those planning to stay in the country longer, it is also advisable to get shots against rabies, tuberculosis and meningitis

  9. Turkmenistan Dress/Language Turkmenistan’s dress hasn’t changed much in the last thousand years. Men wear Shaggy Sheepskin hats to keep the sun off their heads. They also wear red robes over whit shirts. Woman normally wear silk shirts over narrow trousers and are embroidered over the ankles. Jewelry and embroidery accent everyday clothing Turkmen is the official language of Turkmenistan

  10. Turkmenistan Education • Since Independence in 2002 Turkmenistan has slide in overall education • Funding for education has declines/teacher salaries have declined • Free tuition has been eliminated • Bribes are usually required to enter college

  11. Turkmenistan History • Decedents: Turkic-speaking Oghuztribes moved from Mongolia to Turkmenistan • Took over by the Mongols in the 13th Century • Russian/Soviet forces began occupying Turkmen territory late in the nineteenth century • Declared Independence from Russia in Oct, 1991
