  4. Food guide pyramid What are the different food groups that we should consume? • Grains (6oz) • Vegetables (2 ½ cups) • Fruits (1 ½ cups) • Milk (3 cups) • Meat & Beans (5 oz) • Oils (6tsp/pd)

  6. But before we get to understand a healthy diet…. We need to understand nutrients • Micronutrients • Vitamins • Minerals • Water • Macronutrients • Carbohydrates • Proteins • Fats

  7. What do you know about macronutrients • In this activity, you will be organized into groups of three. Each group will receive a foam board with the macronutrients as HEADINGS for three different categories. There will be fifteen characteristics of macronutrients; your group must discuss were all fifteen will be categorized based on the characteristic matching the macronutrient.

  8. Healthy Eating-macronutrients Review • Let’s Review: Each of you have three different color note cards. Each color represents one of the macronutrients: Protein, Fat, and Carbohydrates. • Blue: Carbohydrates • Green: Protein • Yellow: Fats • I’ll ask a question; you will respond with raising the color note card that you believe is the correct answer.

These supplies 4 calories per gram and is essential for muscle growth. • These protect vital organs • These are made of building blocks called amino acids • These are converted into Glucose • 55-65% of your daily calories should come from these • Ans. # 1 – Proteins • Ans. # 2 – Fats • Ans. #3 – Proteins • Ans. # 4 – Carbohydrates • Ans. # 5- Carbohydrates

  11. For Homework: • DON’T FORGET YOUR EXIT SLIP! • IT WILL HELP YOU WITH YOUR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT FOR TONIGHT! • Write an informative essay that explains the main types of micronutrients. • An intro, two bodies and a conclusion is expected for this assignment.

  12. Closure: Keep in mind, there is more than just eating healthy! Physical Activity • Helps to maintain a healthy weight • Live longer • Improve self-esteem • Sleep better • Reduce the chance of becoming depressed • Reduce the chance of chronic disease • Start By doing 10 minutes a day • Recommended 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per day • Chose activities you enjoy • Basketball • Swimming • Weight lifting • Yoga
