  1. Movie Survey

  2. Survey Purpose The purpose of this survey was to discover the degree of importance of movies in a group of students’ every day lives. Each question used a sample of 20 students surveyed from the Green Hope High School population. Students were chosen randomly within the school. Questions asked: • How many movies do you watch per week? • What is your favorite genre of film? • How many times per month do you rent a movie? • Do you prefer to watch a movie in a theater or at home? • When you watch a movie, how many people on average do you watch with?

  3. Question One: How many times do you watch a movie per week? The results of this survey question will give us an idea of how much time the average person has to sit down and completely watch a movie per week. The number of movies watched per week will also show how important movies are in a person’s life. The results of this survey were: • Mean: 2.4 Standard Deviation: 2.3 • Median: 2 Mode: 1

  4. Question Two: What is your favorite genre of film? Options: Comedy, Drama, Horror/Thriller, Action, Other. The results of this survey question will give us a better idea of what type of movies are more popular than others. It could prove why certain movies make more money than others due to genre. Results: Action: 3 Drama: 3 Comedy: 11 Horror/Thriller: 2 Other: 1

  5. Question Three: How many times per month do you rent a movie? • The results of this survey question will again give us an idea of how much time the average person has to rent movies per month. When comparing a month in the summer (when people are out of work and school) to a month in the fall, (when school is in session and people are not home as much) of course more people would rent. But this question will give us a better idea about how often during one month a person will rent movies. The results of this survey were: Mean: 6 Standard Deviation: 9 Median: 3.5 Mode: 3

  6. Question Four: Do you prefer to watch a movie in a theater or at home? • The results of this survey question will prove to us people’s preference of the environment in which they like to watch movies. Some people prefer to watch a movie in the comfort of their own home, and some people really like to see movies on the big screen. • Results: Theater: 14 Home: 6

  7. Question Five: When you watch a movie, how many people on average do you watch with? • The results of this survey question will also tell us about the environment people like to watch movies in. It will tell us whether they like to watch films alone, so as to pay full attention to the movie, or to bring friends along with them to discuss the events of the movie as its playing. • Results were: Mean: 3 Standard Deviation: 2 Median: 3 Mode: 1,3

  8. Conclusions • It can be concluded, through this survey, that students usually watch about 1 film a week, with 2 being the second-highest picked number, as well. • A comedy is the genre of choice for most students, beating the other options by a large majority. • Film rentals compare with number of times movies are watched per week, which translates into the option of 4 (or a close number) being a common answer. • Students also prefer to watch films in theaters. • Students prefer to watch movies with between one and three people.
