  1. Welcome!! Mrs. Hale & Mrs. Baker Kindergarten ~ Track 4 2013-2014

  2. “Meet and Greet” Packet • Student Information Sheet • Emergency Locator Sheet • Class directory • Mrs. Hale’s Picture Dictionary Please return all forms ASAP.

  3. Transportation • Children will have tags placed on their book bags that state their PM mode of transportation (walker, bus – including bus stop, carpool, van, or afterschool care). • A note is needed to make changes to how your child goes home. Please do not rely on your child to tell me about transportation information. If a written note is not received, your child will be sent home via his/her usual mode of transportation.

  4. Supplies • Extra supplies: - Zippered pencil pouch - One additional plastic folder of any color “Giving Tree” ~ “extras” for the class -Chair pockets?? - $5.50 for Studies Weekly subscription • Kindergarten T-shirt

  5. Lunch & Snack • Lunch: 1:15-1:45pm (changes by 5-10 min each track in) • Bring lunch from home or purchase lunch from the cafeteria * Lunch numbers/cards * Online lunch account * Dessert/extras on Fridays only • Snack: 11:45 pm * Please keep snack separate * Snack should be labeled with name * Remember to send a spoon if needed *Healthy snacks- eaten in 10 minutes * Juice boxes/water

  6. Rest Time • Students will be resting each afternoon for 20 minutes. • Recent research suggests that kindergarten students should be given at least 20 minutes each day to rest and “recharge” their bodies and their brains for the remainder of the day! • Please send in a towel for your child (please do not send mats, blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc.) • Towels will go home on Fridays and should be returned on Mondays.

  7. Class Expectations • My philosophy regarding discipline is based on the belief that children need affectionate care and firm guidelines within an enriching, safe, and structured learning environment. • PBS Behavior matrix • “Hop to It” Program • Monthly calendars (in daily folders) • “Fun Friday” Centers

  8. Folders • Daily Folder (red) ~ return everyday! • All money/notes should be sent in the pencil pouch. • Money should always be labeled. • Tuesday Folder (blue) ~ return every Wednesday • Homework Folder (orange)~ return on Friday with all items inside * Reading * Math

  9. Communication • I believe communication is critical! • Newsletters will be sent via email or Tuesday folder each week, and posted on the website.   10. Birthdays • Invitations • Class Directory • All birthday treats must be store bought. • Please pre-arrange to bring in a snack for planning purposes and allergies

  11. Other things… • Illness policy- fever free for 24 hours without the aid of medication. Please use your best judgment- would you want your child sitting next to “that”? • Fuzzy! 

  12. Sign up to volunteer… • If you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, facilitating lunch bunch, joining us on class trips, etc., you will have to complete a volunteer application on a WCPSS computer.  • You have to renew this each year. • Sign up in the media center. • JOIN THE PTA!!!

  13. First Quarter Goals • Class expectations, routines and procedures • Introduce writer’s workshop and literacy centers • Math program • Self-selected developmental Centers • Utilize staggered entry assessment data to begin individualized instruction • 1st parent/teacher conference (September)

  14. Open House • Thursday, August 22nd • 6:00 – 8:00 pm • Multiple sessions • Kindergarten curriculum • Common Core Standards • This is an evening intended for parents only…

  15. Monday morning… • Instructional day: 9:15 – 3:45 pm • Book bag and supplies • Lunch/lunch $ and snack * Separate lunch & snack • Label ALL of your child’s items • After Monday, as per HGES’ handbook, we will begin “kiss and go.” • Tissues, Tears, and Doughnuts!

  16. Things to look forward to…  • In house science field trips • Apple Day • Fall Festival • Thanksgiving Feast • Holiday Workshop • Polar Express Day • Valentine’s Exchange • Lenny the Leprechaun • Field Trip(s) • End of Year performance
