Purpose of Streaming Media Services • Provide on-demand video information to a targeted audience. • In the College of Engineering, purposes include: • Alternate way of delivering lectures • Providing highlights of research projects to targeted audiences: sponsors, industry, government, alumni… • Distance Education and Learning cooperative initiatives • Webcasting information on College and Departmental web sites • Specific targeted audience includes: • Students, prospective students, faculty, program sponsors, industry, government, alumni…

Conclusion • The initial offering of Streaming Media Services is still in its infancy. • The implementation high performance Encoding and Delivery servers utilizing readily available Microsoft software accompanied by ancillary video capturing hardware and software help keep costs manageable. • The offering of Streaming Media Services is being well received by College faculty. • Demands for both video capturing and streaming services continues to grow. • Additional streaming services are needed in the future to support other popular media players: e.g., Real Player & QuickTime.
