Curriculum - Special / Unique Features • ‘Women’s Literature & Women’s Rights ‘- part of Syllabus. • ‘Journalism & Mass Communication’ offer exposure to • Media . • ‘ Creative Writing’ helps in content writing , technical • writing, advertisements & brochure writing. • ELT(English Language Teaching) trains students in Language Teaching. • All the students are given compulsory training in the Language • Lab. • The exercises done in the Language Lab form an integral • part of curriculum • Industrial experts & prominent Academicians frame the curriculum.

  8. Launched in 2005. • Regular addition of software in Language learning. • state-of-the-art infrastructure and two full-time lab technicians. • 62 computers including teacher consoles. • The lab functions for 9 hours a day except on Sundays and other National Holidays

Software • Hi Class—II Multimedia software. • RENET software is used as platform for teacher-learner interaction. • Software programmes like Tense Busters, Speaking Extra, Issues in English, Sky pronunciation Suite & J.D. O’Connor’s ‘Better English Pronunciation’ • BBC’s Look Ahead for Spoken English. • Making ICT enabled English Language learning an interactive experience.

  10. CLARITY Software gives certificates to all the students and staff who complete the 64 exercises successfully. • Till date more than 200 students have successfully completed the programme and have received certificates. • 18 classic movies. • famous speeches of world leaders.

The Department has a CALT (Computer Aided • Language Teaching) programme. • All first year students (Part II—Language) get • an hour per week in the language laboratory • as part of their curricular training. • There is no prescribed time limit for any user. • The self learning programmes in the language • laboratory and a multimedia teaching • strategy improve the linguistic competency • of the slow learners.   14. All the teachers are trained by British Council. • Value added programmes , a corporate benchmark for recruitment. • BEC at 3 levels —prelims, vantage, higher • — from 2009 onwards. BEC

  15. Spreads the habit of reading in the • institution. • More than 2000 students have taken • books—in 2 academic years. • Library is funded by the Department. CIRCULATING LIBRARY

  16. Nearly 1200 books—every year new books • are added—mixture of popular • fiction, classical • works, biographies, inspirational books etc. • 500 e-books—world classics • No additional fees charged—library is • totally free—additional books given before • vacation.

  24. FILM SOCIETY— Magnificio • Inaugurated in August 2012 • 120 students from different classes selected as members of the Society. • A workshop on film making in September 2012. • Plans to conduct a two day campus workshop—give training in making short films.

Provided assistance to train visually challenged women from all over South India in life skills—helped to set up a talking library to the visually challenged. • Trained the teachers of sister institutions • Provided Bed spreads to ‘Saranalaya’ • Helped the landslide victims of Nilgiris. • Participated in the KOTI VRIKSHA to plant 1 crore trees. • Conducted a book exhibition on the campus. • Leadership training given to III yr students, 2012 Extension activities

  28. Miles to go… • Planning to make the department a Postgraduate • Research Centre. • Reading room and Library in a separate room with • separate librarian. • To establish CMS Centre for Film Studies— screen • classic movies after the class hours—twice weekly.
