  4. UNIDO types of interventions: • Global Forum activities • (Five Regional events organized in 2007) • Technical cooperation • (140 ongoing TC projects, and 40 pipeline projects)

  5. ENERGY AND CLEANER PRODUCTION PROGRAMMES

  6. Renewable and Rural Energy Programme • Activities • Energy Development Strategies (Montenegro (ongoing), Srbska Republic (pipeline) • Promoting renewable energy for rural electrification and industrial applications, linked with social benefits • Develop UNIDO programmes in renewable sources of energy such as small hydropower, biomass, bio-fuels, solar, wind, and hydrogen • Supporting training and capacity building for manufacture, local assembly and maintenance of renewable energy technologies / systems • Organizing global forum activities and providing strategic expertise on renewable energy technologies and policies • Promote partnerships and networking for enhanced South-South and East-East Cooperation in the field of energy development

  7. UNIDO International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (ICHET) • ICHET founded in 2003in Istanbul by UNIDO and sponsored by the Turkish Government (40 mln US Dollars) • Purpose: • To promote hydrogen technologies and facilitate their widespread use and application in the developing countries and countries in transition through pilot and demonstration projects • Participate in R&D programmes; maintaining a comprehensive hydrogen energy database; • Organization of conferences and workshops; • Serving as a bridge between the activities of industrialized and developing countries.

  8. Renewable and Rural Energy Programme • Ongoing Projects and Programmes: • Technical Cooperation • Biomass energy based projects - Bio-diesel project in Croatia • Pipeline projects in Albania and Ukraine on biofuels • Wind energy related projects in Romania and Russia. • Global Forum activities • Regional workshop on Biofuels, Cavtat-Dubrovnik, 12-13 November 2007 (Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia,Turkey, Ukraine) •  Regional Workshop on Renewable source of energy for the Carpathian Countries- planned in 2008 • Regional Workshop on Energy issues for Central Asia- planned in 2008
