  1. Lesson Nine: Hidden Circuits

  2. Think and Wonder I’m going to give you a box with circuits hidden inside. How can you find the hidden circuits? Here’s a hint: you must use your circuit tester. Remember, no peeking!. -

  3. Materials Manager: • Storage box • One hidden circuit box -

  4. 1. Working with a partner, make one circuit tester to use to find out how the wires are arranged in the circuit boxes. Check your circuit tester by touching the end wires together to make the bulb light. -

  5. 2. Look at the figure below that shows the inside of a hidden circuit box. The top of the box has eight paper fasteners that have been numbered. - -

  6. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: • Determine how many pairs of fasteners there are on the circuit box. Talk with your partner and make a plan for the way you are going to test all of the possible pairs of contact points. Record you idea in your LRB. -

  7. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: • 4. Using the circuit tester, place the wires over a pair of paper fasteners. This figure shows you how. • If the bulb lights, what does that tell you about the hidden wires? • What if the bulb doesn’t light? • Record your answers in your LRB.- -

  8. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: 5. After testing each pair of fasteners, draw in your notebook the ways you think the wires are connected inside the box. This is your prediction. 6. After you have drawn your prediction, label it with a letter or with the name of the box. You will find this drawing useful later.-

  9. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: 7.Now open the box and compare the wires in the box with your prediction. If there is a difference, don’t erase your prediction. Instead, draw below it the wiring that is inside the box. -

  10. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: • 8.When you have finished testing the first box, trade boxes with another pair who has already made their drawing. • Work on the second box but do not open the lid this time. • Try to complete work on as many hidden circuit boxes as possible. • Be sure to record in your LRB each of the boxes you try! -

  11. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: 9. Let’s share what you have discovered. -

  12. Link to LRB Materials managers: Keep the circuit tester together in your box and then please return all materials to the distribution center.-

  13. Link to LRB In your Laboratory Record Book: Update your Table of Contents.-
