  1. Objectives of the Study conducted by several ANSP T. Kleinmann DFS

  2. Objectives • To validate the size of the sensitive and critical areas to be applied in order to cope with the introduction of the A380 at various European airports. • To validate simulation models (raw data and filtered data) that could be used in the future to assess local situations to define the appropriate sensitive and critical areas.

  3. Objective 1 “Validation of the size of the sensitive and critical area” • Assess the adequacy of the size of the current sensitive and critical area, which are based upon old simulations and field measurements with B747 in the early 70’s. • Activity: Identify the various situations in terms of reflection affecting ILS operations (operationally representative and electro-magnetic critical) and perform field measurements (flight and ground checks).

  4. Objective 2 “Validation of simulation models” • Ensure that the modelling tool could be used in the future to assess specific local situations with a very high level of confidence. • Activity: Compare the measurement in the field with the modelling results and verify that the correlation of the results was correct.
