  2. Who 'created' Jazz? There wasn't really a single person who created jazz. There was actually many bands that played music similar to jazz. Some prominent figures during the creation of jazz include Scott Joplin (left) and William Krell. (right)

  3. What is jazz? Jazz is a type of music of African American origin characterized by improv, syncopation (the loss of sounds from a word) and usually a forceful rhythm. What instruments were used particularly in jazz in the 20s? The clarinet, trumpet, trombone, pianos and saxophone are instruments affiliated with jazz music.

  4. What is the most commonly used Jazz instrument? The piano. It’s definitely the most commonly known and used instrument in jazz, but it’s also the most expensive.

  5. When was the jazz age? • The Jazz Age was in the 20's and ended with the start of The Great Depression. Jazz was a more upbeat style than most of the music that people listened to at the time. It occurred mostly in the United States, but also in Europe. (Wikipedia, 1)

  6. Who was the most popular jazz player? Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901 and died July 6, 1971. His nick names were Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz player in New Orleans, Louisiana. He became famous in the 1920s as a cornet and trumpet player, Armstrong's biggest influence on Jazz was changing group performances to more of a solo performance. "With his instantly recognizable deep and distinctive gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also greatly skilled at scat singing (vocalizing using sounds and syllables instead of actual lyrics)."   7. How did jazz effect people's lifestyles? • It effected how people dressed. They wanted to dress like the jazz musicians. • Also, the African-American race increased due to the music. Who generally listened to jazz music? Pretty much everyone! It was wildly popular amongst all ages in the 1920's.
