  3. Zeus’ Wives Metis: first wife. Because of the prophesy, when she became pregnant he ate her. Athena is born from this union. Themis: second wife. Bore the Fates. Mnemosyne: third wife. Mother of the Nine Muses. Hera: fourth wife. Bore Ares.

  4. And the lovers…After Hera Europa: Europe is named after her. He stole her by disguising himself as a bull. Fled back to Olympus with her on his back.

  5. Io Zeus engulfs them in a thick cloud to keep Hera from finding them. Hera catches on, but when she sees him he is with a cow! She makes him give the beautiful white cow to Argus as a present and to watch her.

  6. Semele Human Zeus promised her anything she wanted and swore by the river Styx. Hera put it in her heart to want to see Zeus in him in all his splendor. With the burning light, she dies. He snatches the baby she is carrying and hides him in his thigh (Dionysus who saves her from the Underworld and took her to Mt. Olympus)

  10. Cont’d When Niobe (queen of Thebes) brags about being mother of fourteen children and being better than Leto, (jealous of Grecians worshiping her) Apollo and Artemis kills all fourteen kids. Niobe weeps until she turns to stone.
