  2. Window’s ExcelHow to make a table • Open Excel 2007 • First thing that is important is title each box that you need in the horizontal rows. (First name, last name, parents, address, city, state, zip code, phone number, gender pronoun & article, Homework Numbers, Quiz numbers, Unit test & grade). • This is for students learning how to make a grade book if they aspire to become a teacher.

Cont. • Now the columns. • First column is to number by the students. • Second and so forth is adding in the blocks like student 1’s first name is John so fill it in. • Fill in all the other information. • Find the students averages by using the filled in grades. You can do it by hand our press the = button and click the sum button on the top left corner under the tool tables. • Click and drag on the numbers you want and click average.

MAIL MERGING • Open Word 2007 • Start writing out a letter but leave out the recipients names and their address and pronouns. • After the letter is finished and there are blank spaces, click mailings on the top of word • Click select recipients then click use existing list • Find and Open the Excel Document made and click on the main component.

  6. Filling in • This is what the letter should look like (blank Parents) (blank Address) (blank Date) Dear (blank parent), Today is the fifth week mark of the third term. I wanted to inform each of the parents/guardians how their students are doing to date. Below is a list of grades from the most recent unit, (Name) participation grade, and (blank pronoun) course average. If I may be of any further assistance please feel free to contact me. Blanks…. • Now click on Mailing and Start Mail merge and click letters. • Now to fill in the blank spaces, click to first line and highlight….it is the parents (blank)name. • Click on insert merge field and find student guardian name. Should have << >> appear • To fill in the other blanks, find what should match to the blank spaces.

  8. Finishing up • After every blank is filled with the right merge, click on finish mail merge in mailing. • What should happen is all the students in the grade book should have a letter with their individual grades.
