  1. WHY AL WILLIAMS WAS PROTESTED BY BLACK LIVES MATTER – FOR IMPROVING A NEIGHBORHOOD

  2. I was just another ambitions landlord. I wanted to buy rentals that I could afford and hold them for the long haul. But what I could afford was in a neighborhood that wasn’t so good but oozed with potential. So I bought the most problematic apartment building on the block with the intent to improve the neighborhood around it. Some of my efforts where more effective than others; at the time, there wasn’t a road map for fixing a troubled neighborhood. Some guidance would have saved a lot of headaches. But over the years I’ve pieced together useful information and eventually figured out something that works.   Hosting a real estate networking event in my target neighborhood is one of my tactics to show off how great the area is.

  3. So why the protest me? What was going on here?   See not everyone will embrace change. When a neighborhood gets better and both rents and property values go up, some residents will feel left behind. They will try to sabotage your efforts. If you aren’t anticipating the resistance and know how to keep your neighborhood improvement campaign moving forward, your efforts might be a waste of time. 4. Here’s what I’ve learned since then… If you’re effective, then not everyone will be happy. I’m glad I understood the big picture when people were yelling protest chants. Otherwise I would get my feeling hurt and might sell off my properties before realizing their full potential. It’s important to have a battle-tested plan for buying rentals in troubled neighborhoods. It’s the difference between those who can accumulate inner city wealth and those who just settle for cash flow

  5. Moral of the Story If you anticipate the resistance you won’t be deterred; you can stick with an improvement campaign until it yields results. And by understanding the revitalization journey, you can build your wealth by buying affordable rentals then making the area more desirable year after year. I’ll share more in the coming weeks.
