News & Notes Hillside First Grade For the Week of October 28 Here’s What’s Happening in First Grade! • Reminders • Halloween Party is Wednesday 30th at 2:15-have your child bring their costume to school. No makeup and no weapons • November 4th is our BugzMuscial at 3:00- in the Hillside Gym-a formal invite will be coming home later this month • Please bring in new or gently used books we will be donating them to the children’s hospital. Also Food Drive will go to Hope. Due November 3rd. • Blog: • Check the blog for weekly pictures and updates of first grade happenings • http://hillsidefirstgrade.wordpress.com What We are Learning: Reading: We are continuing Unit 2 and will be working on Readers Theatre. Students will be analyzing their character and performing their script to the class. Our phonics lessons will be focusing on final consonant clusters ft, lp, lt and mp. Math: Students will be learning the frames and arrows method which works with addition and subtraction. We will continue working on telling time to the hour and half hour. Writing: Students will be writing a story about a family member. Ask your child who they are writing about and brainstorm ideas and details with them.
