  2. What is TEDx? • TED is a non-profit organisation committed to spreading ideas. It covers almost all topics- from science to business to global issues- through the form of short, powerful talks. • Independently run TEDx events further this cause through smaller events in local communities. • Roundwood Park School, along with Rothamstead, SJL and St Georges, are planning to introduce this to Hertfordshire

  3. When and Where • We will be running the TEDx event at Rothamsted research centre 6th July 2015 • This will be to celebrate the opening of the new conference centre • It will be in front of 100 guests of students and adults • It will also be recorded and shown at school.

  5. What is the issue? • There is a pressure on the environment to an unprecedented level and the solution as to what to do isn’t clear yet. There is only one thing that we do know, and that is that it will be up to our generation to solve it. The future is in our hands. • There are many problems that we need to tackle.

  6. Economics- the top 1% of the richest people in the world are richer than the poorest half of the world. Shortage of Food and water- the rate of consumption in the world will not be able to be sustained as the population grows Technology- how ae we going to use technology to solve our problems? Health- healthcare needs to cope with the bigger population and new problems that it may face Energy- we’re running out of fossil fuels, we need to come up with a new method to provide energy Culture- increasing clashes of culture where people need to mix and get along with each other

We need you! • Speeches • Dance • Poetry • Drama • Music • Presentations • Videos • Any other ideas are welcome • Our team are looking for volunteers from any year group who can hep us present these problems to an audience of young people and community leaders at a TEDx event this summer. • We are looking for students from Roundwood who are willing to offer their talents in areas such as:

WHY • ‘Education is the passport to the future and tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today’ • World leaders, adults are getting things wrong and our generation will be picking up the pieces. • We have this opportunity to share our ideas with our peers and adults and we are able to make a difference.
