  2. When and why did it begin? • World War Two in Europe began in1939, when the Prime Minister of Britain, Neville Chamberlain, declared war on Germany. It involved many of the world's countries. The Second World War was started by Germany in an unprovoked attack on Poland. Britain and France declared war on Germany after Hitler had refused to abort his invasion of Poland.

  3. How did people protect themselves during the war? • Children and some women were evacuated from the big cities into the countryside. People carried gas masks to protect themselves and built air raid shelters. All windows and doors were blacked out .The air raid shelters were built in front of their home and could go down as long as 28 feet! Theycould be under there for as long as two hours.Houseswhere all blacked out meaning all the windows/doors were boarded up so no light at all shone out of the windows.This was a very important thing to do.

  4. Who fought in the war? • World War 2 was fought between two groups of countries. On one side were the Axis Powers, including Germany, Italy and Japan. On the other side were the Allies. They included Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, China and the United States of American.Germany was ruled by Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Hitler wanted Germany to control Europe. Some countries did not join the war including Spain,Sweden, Switzeland and Ireland ,although some Irish people did help out the Allies.

  5. When did it end? • World War 2 ended in 1945 during the summer ,just a few years later. It was estimated that about 50 million people died through the years world war 2 was on.When everyone found out that was it all over the evacuees were reunited with their families,bringing a smile to their faces.

  6. Do you know anyone who lived in the war? My gran was an evacuate and got sent to the Isle of white with her friend.Mythree great grans also lived through the war.I know many relatives who lived during the war but I dont know anyone who fought in the war.
