  2. {His Life} • Malcolm X was born in Omaha,Nebraka. The events of his childhood, including his father's lessons concerning black pride and self-reliance, and his own experiences concerning race, played a significant role in Malcolm X's adult life. • By the time he was thirteen, his father had died and his mother had been committed to a mental hospital. After living in a series of foster homes, Malcolm X became involved in hustling and other criminal activities in Boston and New York.

  3. ~in Boston~ • In Boston Malcolm held a variety of jobs and found intermittent employment with New Haven Railroad. Living in Harlem he got involved with drug dealing, gambling, robbery, and steering prostitutes. • Malcolm studied the teachings of Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad. Muhammad taught that white society actively worked to keep African-Americans from empowering themselves and achieving political, economic and social success.

  4. <What Happen> • Malcolm x and Elijah Muhammad split up because Malcolm was writing a book and the Alex Haley was paying more attention to Malcolm's book more then Elijah Muhammad's career. • Elijah Muhammad forbade his ministers from commenting on the incident. Malcolm X violated the directive and coldly equated President Kennedy's assassination with “chickens coming home to roots".

  5. ~after~ • When Malcolm x lefted the nations of Islam, he became a Sunni Muslim an made a pilgrimage to Mecca, and which he disavowed racism. • He traveled throughout Africa and the middle east. Less after a year he left the nations of Islam.
