WP3 Overview Contributions • Thomson: CDN Cluster & VOD Server • Maxisat: DSL network, system evaluation on real environment (Finland) • DS2/Robotiker: HDTV extenders at home for Live and VOD • LRSM/ENSSIE: Wifi transmission at home, self-produced content, Wimax theorical study • Telefonica: transcoding module, off-line and online to adapt content to HDTV accessing devices, IPTV Application Server, Mobile handset • I&IMS: HD Visio for formative environment (distribution of Live self-produced content) • Barco: QoS/QoE probes, QoS/QoE Server, Transcoding modules, Monitoring grid • Missing points: • Broadcast: no contribution for terrestrial, only multicast • Metadata transmission: no more UAB contribution (decision on January, 21th) • Self-produced content from LRSM/ENSIIE to clarify

  8. 3.1 Deliverable Planning • January, 20th: draft Table of Content • February, 2nd: final Table Of Content • February, 27th: dead-line for each partner to submit to WP3 leader his contribution • March, 13th: diffusion for review to all involved WP3 partners and other WPs leaders of the consolidated document • March, 27th: approved consolidated document with all contributions sent to HDTVNEXT Project Manager and to all WP leaders.

WP5: mid-term demos (1/2) • Proposed demos by WP3 partners • Telefonica: not able to demonstrate something for March/April 2009, only a slide show of their contribution • I&IMS: first demo probably in April/May (depending on Barcelona University for Content) ??? • Maxisat: possible to re-use the result of Magellan project (light DSL network) with a demo which may be moved in France for mid-term review • DS2/Robotiker: possible to show the preliminary board, but not to demonstrate in April • LRSM: not able to demonstrate something in March/April 2009, ready for the next ITEA symposium in October 2009 • Barco: not present at the call • Thomson Grass Valley: possible to demonstrate HD CDN and VODstreaming, need more information coming from WP2 and WP4 about content format and capacity of terminals or PC emulators

Thomson Contributions • Cluster for Content Distribution on delivery network • Ingest of profesionnal HD contents • Distribution of HD contents on different storage servers (centralized, edge, local) according to distribution policy by using SVC levels • HD VOD servers • VOD streaming sessions with HD IP STB: play, pause, stop, FFR, FFW • Inter-dependencies within WP3 partners and with other WP partners: • HD Encoders/Transcoders: WP2(VITEC & Thomson), WP3 Telefonica • WP4 - PACE STB • WP4 - PC Emulator for HD decoding (VLC Player)? • WP3 Maxisat DSL network • Involved use cases: HD VOD at Home

Maxisat Contributions • Provides the access to the existing ADSL and FTTH network infrastructure available in Finland for interoperability tests and for QoE/QoS measurements • Contribution network • Home network (household line) • Performs some QoE and QoS measurements with a report • Inter-dependencies within WP3 partners and with other WP partners: • HD Encoders/Transcoders • PACE STB • Thomson VOD servers • Barco probes • Involved use cases: Multicast (TV channels & Live Self produced content) & Unicast (VOD) sessions

Robotiker – DS2 Contributions • Robotiker leader in the « Lowcost HD signal distribution at home through PLC » use case • Objective: using HDTV extenders to broadcast HD streams (TV & VOD) in Home on several TV sets by using only one HD STB • Main Contributors: • DS2 (leader) • Robotiker By using Thomson TV and VOD streams, Maxisat infrastructure • Interdependencies with other WP partners • Pace STB • Involved use cases: Streaming at Home (Multicast & Unicast)

Barco Contributions • QoS/QoE probes on distribution, access and home networks • Reference picture coming from Live Encoders or to build from stored content • J2K generation in QoS probes (3 levels whose thumbnails) • Notification of alarms to QoS server • Visual quality control on monitoring grid • No dynamic control to adapt QoS  no interfaces with other modules • Inter-dependencies with other WP partners: • Multiplexer to insert QoS metadata in MPEG-2 TS: who provides this equipment? • Pace STB: capability to have an embedded probe in STB? • Involved Use Cases: all

Telefonica Contributions • Defining, specifying and developing a transcoding module that will adapt (on-line / off-line) content to HDTVNext accessing devices. • Extraction and analysis of the source content characteristics process • Optimal profiles specification and development according to the different HDTVNext devices • Analysis of Quality of service • HD content optimal adaptation • Adaptation contents algorithms development: • Source content • User preferences • Network capabilities • User Terminal characteristics • Etc. • IPTV Application Server • Mobile handset (only from demos) • Inter-dependencies within WP3 partners and with other WP partners: • PACE STB, WP2 Encoders/Transcoders • Involved Use Cases: Formative Environement for Live Self-Produced Content, Multicast Live TV Channels

I&IMS Contributions • HD Visio for formative environment • Lessons are delivered in HD, pupils can participate too. • Full HD quality delivered using H.264 and AAC (Advanced Audio Coding). • Viewers can really understand what is written on the blackboard. • Specially interesting for lectures that require a high image definition (Art, Biology, Medicine, etc.) • Point to point connections, using IP cameras (instead of low-end USB cameras) • Content can be locally recorded (pupils can watch lectures later on) • Shared desktop feature • RTP and RTCP protocols • Interdependencies with other WPs: UAB, Activa Multimedia, Telefonica • Involved Use Cases: Formative environment
