Facebook Privacy World Wide The CIPPIC claimed that Canada failed to inform Facebook members that their personal. information is released to third parties for advertising and other profit making actions. Facebook is Canada’s most popular social networking site. They say that Canadian teens may not appreciate the risk of their personal information being exposed. CIPPIC also says that Facebook should inform the members that their information can be viewed by others even with the highest security settings.

Privacy Issues • More focused on encouraging people to share more information • Changes may reduce the control users have over some personal data • “everyone” privacy setting can mean visible to third party sites • Most users don’t fully read the issues/changes • No turning back now • Facebook can now import and/or export information as they chose without privacy limitations

  5. Questions • How do you feeling about teachers having a facebook? • Facebook privacy effective? • How private is private? • When you become a teacher will you still have your facebook? Would you add your coworkers and students?

Teachers adding students as friends • Used to be solely college students • Opponents fear they could be viewed as sexual predators • Teacher in Houston talks w/ former students about future school issues • Parent’s find it appalling to know that their children’s teachers have accepted requests from students • Teachers see it as a good way to communicate and know when to keep personal issues, personal • Some states like Mississippi, and Missouri whose senator is trying to push a similar bill, are prohibiting teachers from contacting students via text messages or social-networking sites • Most teachers strive to keep their pages PG with no cursing or outrageous photos of their weekends
