Impact of the Socrates programme onto the Polish education sector Poland joined the Socrates programme in 1998 • Socrates comprises 100 Polish universities;• over 8 000 students have spent 6-month study periods abroad;• over 500 Polish schools co-operate with educational establishments from other countries in the realisation of European Educational Projects;• Nearly 900 Polish foreign language teachers had the opportunity to complete a training abroad; • Polish universities, adult education centres and schools have participated in more than 80 Transnational Cooperation Projects aiming at preparation of new tools facilitating foreign language learning, preparation of innovative teacher training programmes, implementation of modern technology in education, improvement of adult education offers. National Priorities for Adult Education in Poland • to improve the quality of adult education, through cross - sectoral and trans - disciplinary curricula and cooperation between educational, cultural, social organisations and the business sector; • to encourage and equip adults to participate more actively in all spheres of public life; • to improve the supply and availability of learning opportunities for adults, through the development and dissemination of innovative approaches and good practice; • to promote employability of adults by giving them a chance to acquire or update their knowledge and skills; • to promote lifelong learning and e-learning in adult education.   6. GRUNDTVIG 3 in Poland Grant in total for the Grundtvig decentralised actions - 182 488 euro- according to the contract obligation - at least 10% for GR 3. There have been two calls for proposals last year:the first call: due to the lack of course offers in the first 6 month of 2001, upon the Commission’s consent the Arion Programme offers have been distributed to adult education centres10 applications have been approved by the Arion/Grundtvig Selection Committee the second call: for GR3 courses has closed on March 31;13 applications have been submitted Grundtvig Selection Committee’s decision will be made on May 10 We expect to contract 23 grantholders for GR 3 mobility SOCRATES/GRUNDTVIG National Agency, Poland
