  1. CANADARM BYAlicia Albrecht

  2. Canadarm • The shuttle remote manipulator system • This is a mechanical arm used on the space shuttle to maneuver a payload from the payload bay of the orbiter to its deployment position and then release it.

  3. Where did the Canadarm come from? • Canada designed and invented the Canadarm. • Canada joined the space transportation program in 1969. and decided to make a big impact on the program. Creating the opportunity for Canadians to be recognized in the space program. Designed and built by the Canadian firm Spar Aerospace Ltd., the Canadarm was a gift from Canada to NASA's space shuttle program

  4. What does the Canadarm have to do with shuttles? • Infact the canadarm has nothing to do with shuttles and all to do with satellites. • When the shuttle carries the satellites into space the canadarm places the satellite among space in the requested.

  5. How does it work? • For the canadarm to work it has a foot long metal prong attached to what they call the bus which is commonly known as the body of the canadarm the prong is called the grapple fixture there are three wires that connect to the grapple fixture the wires can be retracted which then does the satellite fit properly on the canadarm

  6. Has the Canadarm ever malfunctioned? • No the canadarm actually has never malfunctioned in over 50 missions to space and over 7,000 orbits around the earth. • The canadarm actually does more then it was invented for. From knocking ice off the fuselage of the orbiter to fixing the Hubble space telescope.
