  1. Skiing by: Ryan Adkins LT: what is cross-country skiing and downhill skiing and how are they different?

  2. When Was It Created and How Did It Change? Cross Country skiing was created 7000 years ago. Downhill skiing was created 3 years before the first Olympics which they had downhill skiing and cross country skiing. At first skiing was used to get across long distances of snow. (Cross-country) It changed from just being helpful, but to fun and exciting too. (downhill)

  3. When was it created and how did it change? Now most people don’t use skiing to get around anymore; they use snowmobiles and dog sleds instead. In some countries they still use wooden skis to get across land, but only in winter or snowy countries like Antarctica. No one lives there , but when people go there to experiment they sometimes use skis to get around.

  4. When was it created and how did it change? In Norway they really don’t know what downhill skiing is. All they do is cross-country skiing for fun sometimes, but mostly for transportation and getting around. In Europe skiing is almost everyone’s favorite thing to do either downhill or cross country skiing.

  5. Why is skiing a famous sport? Skiing is the most popular winter sport in the Olympics tied with curling. It is also famous because it’s fun and basic and a lot of people do it.

  6. Where do you do it? You do it either on a mountain or hill with snow on it that is at least 3 feet deep and has no boulders or rocks in the way. Some people ski on extreme courses that might take place in a forest ( with of course snow ) or a slope that is almost straight down.

  7. To ski, you put your poles under your arms and crouch down into your boots. If it is a steep course then you normally take turns so you don’t go really fast and fall and hurt yourself. Although this guy looks like hes falling down, he is really not. He is on a very steep course so he needs to take good turns in order not to go too fast

  8. Interesting facts The oldest pair of cross-country skis were found in Russia and were some 6000 years old. Downhill skis in the 1800’s were 15 to 25 feet long
