  2. About Me • BAE Certification: Elementary (K-6) • I graduated from F.A.U. - Magna Cum-Laude in 2006, and have been working as a substitute in Indian River County since then. • My husband’s name is Sam. He’s a fire-medic. • I have 3 kids. William, Lillian, and Ricochet (Yes, the family dog.)

  4. Class Content: • Thinking and working like a Scientist • Energy Transformation and Measuring Motion • Types of Forces • Weather Patterns and Their Impact on Humans • Earth’s Changing Surface • Cell Structure, Function, and History • Classification of Living Organisms • Human Body Systems

  5. Materials • Science Notebook – composition notebook for bellwork, notes, and lab activities • Pencil or pen, highlighter • PreAP and Gifted: Another composition notebook to be used as a logbook for the required science fair project

  6. Classroom Expectations: • Listen quietly when others are speaking. • Come to class prepared with your supplies and assignments. • Follow directions the first time given. • Be respectful of other people and their property. • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.

  7. Grading Procedures • Tests / Quizzes – 50% • Classwork– 25% • Labs/Projects – 20% • Homework – 5%

  8. Parent Involvement: • Read notes and assignments on units that are recorded in your student’s agenda. • Monitor progress during units by checking your student’s work. • Encourage and support homework and all unit assignments. • Talk with your student on a regular basis about what he/she is learning. • Create an atmosphere at home where your student has a designated study space and study time. • Offer help with homework or make sure your student asks for help before or after school. • eSembler is an excellent tool for parents to use to keep up with their children’s progress!!!

  9. If your child is absent, check out the class web page. It can be accessed under teacher pages on the Storm Grove website. From there, look under science, and click on Mrs. Rollin’s name. Missing assignment can be found there. Your child has until the end of each unit to make up any missing work.
