FIGURAFormazione dell'apparato preposto alla divisione cellulare in E. coli - L'apparato preposto alla divisione cellulare è composta da numerose proteine che si pensa possano assemblarsi nell'ordine indicato. Il processo prende avvio con la polimerizzazione della proteina FtsZ che forma l'anello Z. In seguito le proteine FtsA e ZipA (in Bacillus subtilis forse la ZapA ) ancorano l'anello Z alla membrana plasmatica. Nonostante sia stato ormai accertato che tutte queste proteine costituiscano l'apparato di divisione cellulare solo di alcune di esse è nota attualmente la funzione. (Da: Prescott 7e, 2009)
