  1. La Misma LunaJournal

  2. Immigration Unit: • We as a class are going to look at many sides of the issue of immigration. We will examine and understand a variety of viewpoints. • To accomplish this we will be viewing a variety of documentaries and a movie. In addition, you will be reading and researching a variety of articles on the topic. • You and a group will create and present a project where you will answer the question “What can we discover about real-world solutions to immigration issues? How can we understand the issues the US faces today? What solution can you propose to address these issues?” • More specific information about how you will accomplish this will come later.

  3. OBJECTIVES: • To provide students with a more complete view of the issue. • To obtain greater understanding of Hispanics in the U.S. • To dispel myths and stereotypes. • To examine Mexican culture, history etc.. through discussing immigration.

  4. “the frame” • You are entitled to your opinions and I invite you to share yours, but no matter what derogatory or disrespectful language will not be tolerated. • Be open to listening to all sides of the debate. • Remember that listening and understanding do not mean agreement. We can understand each other without agreeing.

  5. What is our intention? IS IS NOT To change minds To judge others Right or wrong • Understanding • Finding out • Comparing • Evaluating • Considering • Knowing more

  6. Something to keep in mind: “Sometimes it’s not about right or wrong; sometimes it’s about consequences.”
