Status of IV Nursing SUGGESTIONS FOR CONTENT, cont • IV Nursing - is it a recognized specialty in your country? • If yes, is the specialty recognized by national or local Nursing Association? • Does the Ministry of Health recognize IV Nursing as a specialty? • Are there specific educational requirements for a nurse to become a specialized IV nurse? • Is there a defined Scope of Practice? Applied nationally? Locally? Or within each individual hospital only? • Is there an IV Nursing Society or Association which meets at regular intervals? • If no IV nurse specialists exist, who inserts peripheral catheters? Central short term catheters? • Are PICC catheters used frequently? Who inserts them? Are there any patients with PICCs cared for in the home? Who provides this care? • Who performs care and maintenance on all IV catheters?
