Types of Government . Government . Every country has a government They are all different Leaders are chosen Amount of power held by the people Fall into 2 types -nondemocratic and democratic. Nondemocratic Government . Monarchies- A person (king or queen) who reigns over a kingdom.

  2. Government • Every country has a government • They are all different • Leaders are chosen • Amount of power held by the people • Fall into 2 types -nondemocratic and democratic

  3. Nondemocratic Government • Monarchies- A person (king or queen) who reigns over a kingdom. • In the past, some European monarchies held all of the power and often ruled by force • United Kingdom and Sweden have Monarchies • Today they have limited powers and serve as ceremonial heads of state

Nondemocratic Governments • Dictatorships- A dictator is a person who rules with complete and absolute power. • Usually takes power by force • Rulers answer only to themselves not the people that they rule • Some dictators try to control every aspect of citizens’ lives • Religions • Cultural • Political • Personal activities

Democratic Governments • Democracy- people of a nation either rule directly or they elect officials who act on their behalf. • (rule of the people) • Two types • Type 1- Direct Democracy- all voters meet in one place to make laws • Type 2- Representative Democracy-the people elect representatives to carry on the work of the government for them. The people agree to be ruled by their elected leaders.
