Expected Learning Outcomes • Be able to name at least five functions of Kurzweil 3000 that can help you in your kinesthetic learning • Be able to retrieve your digitized textbook from box.net with a user name and password • Be able to navigate through the digitized textbook in Kurzweil and get instructions through sticky notes, bubble notes, and voice notes • Be able to extract highlighted words or concepts into column notes or footnotes • Be able to download the trial application from Kurzweil online or to locate computers with Kurzweil applications on campus

  3. Functions of Kurzweil Click on the question mark to read or listen to the bubble note Click on the speaker to listen to your professor’s voice note

  4. Click on the upper arrow to move to the next page • Click on the down arrow to move to the previous page Functions of Kurzweil (Cont.) Click on “OK” to close the bubble note

  5. Place the cursor in front of a word or a section and click on the Read button to have the text read to you. • Adjust the speed of the reading by clicking on the up or down arrow Functions of Kurzweil (Cont.)

Functions of Kurzweil (Cont.) • Place the cursor in front a new word • click on Definition on the top menu to get a definition from one of the dictionaries in Kurzweil. • Click on Synonym to display words with similar meanings • Click on Pronounce to listen how the word is sounded • Click on Syllables to find how many syllables the word has • Click on Spell to listen to the spelling of the word (helpful to those who are visually impaired)

  7. Translate a sentence into a foreign language • Place the cursor in front a sentence • Click on Translate from the top menu • Select a foreign language from the dropdown language menu • Click on Translate • Click on Done to close the screen

  8. Functions of Kurzweil (Cont.) • Create or Display a hyperlink to a webpage • Place the cursor in front of a word or phrase to be linked • Click on Hyperlink and add the URL to link the webpage to the chosen word or phrase • Click on the hyperlinked word or phrase to go to the webpage

  9. Functions of Kurzweil (Cont.) • Develop Your Study Skills Using Column Notes • Use the highlightersto highlight words and definitions or other categories • Click on Column Notes to extract the highlighted words or phrases into column notes
