  2. Major Advantages of Pesticides • Cost effectiveness: Low labor input and large areas can be treated effectively and quickly. • Flexibility: Solves nearly all pest problems • Price: The price buying for the citizens lowers. • Comfort for humans: Under the blanket of pesticides is pet flea products, fly and insect spray and other household products which make life bearable. • Protection of the environment: herbicides used to control weeds.

  3. Major Disadvantages of Pesticides • Reduction of beneficial species :Other animals who need the targeted pest for living gets affected and thus, changes in the biodiversity of an area and affect natural biological balances. • Drift of sprays and vapour: ause severe problems in different crops, livestock, waterways and the general environment. • Ex) Wildlife, fish • Residues in food: There is possibility of pesticides in human food by direct application or bio-magnification along the food line • Ground water contamination: Chemicals can reach underground aquifers if there is persistent product use in agricultural areas.

  4. PAN ( Pesticide Action Network) • Focused on banning harmful pesticides • The latest generation of pesticides in Europe marketed by chemical companies were not safer for the environment or our health. • Thus, replacing with new pesticides will not help. • They claim agricultural practices and management are the best way of ensuring subtanability and high food quality.

  5. Pesticides rate in Europe

  6. PAN’s solution • Organic agricultural production • system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and soil biological activity • However, Integrated production (IP) is often the most realistic short-term option for mainstream farmers. • Environment and human health if it is successfully implemented • It is mandatory for all farmers to adopt IP until 2014.
