  7. Attendance Regular Attendance is a necessity… 1. Teachers move along at a steady pace. 2. Teachers must teach the curriculum in its entirety to prepare students for the semester exam.

  8. Attendance Points to Remember about absences: 1. Students must bring in a note when absent. 2. The absence will be excused based on an approved absences list provided by the county. (Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook & Agenda Book) 3. The note must be brought to school within 3 days of the absence.

  9. Parent Support Tips for Attendance • Encourage regular attendance. • Contact your child’s school counselor to inform of extended absences. • If possible plan around school days for an absence such as a doctor’s appointment. • Write notes in a timely manner and only for legitimate absences.

  10. Homework • Given each week. • Each student will be given an agenda book to record homework. (Free) • Call or e-mail the teacher if you have questions. • To support your Child: 1. Ask about it. 2. Set up a study time. 3. Provide a quiet and comfortable place. 4. Suggest they do the most difficult first.

  11. Student Success 1.Complete all of the practice class work and homework. 2.Participate and ask questions in the class. If experiencing academic difficulties in class, students should: • Talk to the class teacher. • Attend lunch time tutoring sessions with their teacher. • Schedule before or after school tutoring sessions with their teacher. • Attend peer tutoring sessions.(NHS & Minority Scholars) • Talk to your school counselor. • Talk to your administrator.

  12. Grading • Effort is an important tool in becoming a successful learner. • Grades are earned NOT given. • Students’ grades are based on their performance and completion of the course objectives.

Progress Reports • Each teacher will review their grading procedures with their students during the first week of school. • Each teacher will utilize Pinnacle to record student grades in order for students and parents to monitor the student’s academic progress via Edline. • Teachers will articulate their system of providing feedback to their students.

  15. Report Cards • First Semester 1stquarter: Ends Nov. 2, 2012 Report Card- Nov. 14, 2012 Students take Home 2ndquarter: Ends Jan. 18, 2013 Report Card-Jan. 31, 2013 Students take Home • Second Semester 3rdquarter: Ends March 22, 2013 Report Card-April 11, 2013 Students take Home 4thquarter: Ends June 14, 2013 Report Card- June 25, 2013 Mailed Home

  16. Semester Credits • Each student takes 7 classes each semester. • Each class has a value of .50 credit. • Students will earn 3.50 credits each semester. • 7 credits each year. • 22 credits needed to graduate.

  19. Social Life Clarksburg is a large school which provides students with many activities and opportunities: 1. Helps to promote student success. 2. Used to make friends. 3. Used to pursue a career. 4. Helpful in providing students with a well- rounded profile for their college applications. Check the school’s website for the list of activities.

  20. Student Responsibility Be aware of the school’s expectations and apply them when dealing with their school work and peers. 1. Listen, read and participate in school class work and activities. (Class, PA, Agenda Book, Flyers, Letters) 2. Monitor their progress. (Edline) 3. Ask for make-up work or help. 4. Follow-up as needed or expected. 5. Behave in a manner conducive for learning. 6. Participate in their own career planning.

  21. Parent Awareness • We encourage a rigorous schedule for students. Be mindful of your child’s skills and workload. • Consistently check your child’s school performance.(Edline) • Students need to balance friends, school and other extra-curricular activities. • 9th graders will have elective classes with older students. Think about and communicate your expectations. • If you are not sure about something or have a question, call your child’s counselor or administrator.

  25. PSAT Test • When: Wednesday, October 17, 2012 • Cost: $14. 00 • Registration: CHS will support students in registering for the test. Forms are located in Auditorium Lobby!!!

  26. Preparing for the SAT • Access SAT information on CHS website. • Attend school seminars (posted flyers & PA announcments). • Actively participate in SAT/ACT activities in the classroom. • Use the “192 Vocabulary Words” as supplemental homework.

  29. CLASS OF 2016 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS • Students must earn a minimum of 22 credits. Students entering high school starting in the fall of 2011 are required to take the High School Assessments in English 10, Algebra 1, and Biology after they complete each course. Students must earn either the passing scores on the all three HSAs or a combined score of at least 1208. • REQUIRED • SUBJECTCREDITS • English 4.0 • Mathematics 4.0 (1 credit Algebra & 1 credit Geometry) • Science 3.0 (1 credit Physical Science & 1 credit • Biology) • Social Studies 3.0 (1credit US History, 1 credit NSL Government, • 1 credit Modern World History) • Physical Ed. 1.0 Recommended for 9th grade year • Health 0.5 Required for 10th grade year • Fine Arts 1.0 Includes Courses in Art, Music, and Theater • Technology Ed. 1.0 Foundations of Technology, Intro to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering , or Designing for Technology Solutions Student Service Learning 75 Hours

Promotion Policy Students must earn a minimum of 5 credits each year to be promoted to the next grade level. • Moving from Grade 9 to Grade 10 Students must earn a minimum of 5 credits--1 credit in English, 1 credit in Math plus 3 credits in other courses. • Moving from Grade 10 to Grade 11 Students must earn a minimum of 10 credits—2 credits in English, 2 credits in Math, 1 credit in Social Studies, and 1 credit in Science plus 4 credits in other courses. • Moving from Grade 11 to Grade 12 Students must earn a minimum of 15 credits– 3 credits in English, 3 credits in Math, 2 credits in Social Studies, and 2 credits in Science plus 5 credits in other courses.
