  2. Jobs & Commerce Mission… Aligning transportation strategies and investments with the needs of Ohio’s businesses and workers • Promote job creation and retention in Ohio by assisting businesses and communities to deliver transportation solutions…at the speed of business

Jobs & Commerce Team • Rapid-response team with 6 regional managers dedicated to helping communities move quickly…we are fast…really fast! • Business and transportation backgrounds • Liaisons between public and private sector • Funding strategists who will help champion complex and sensitive conversations – we’ll help get your partners on the bus.

We assist Ohio’s businesses and communities by offering: • Guidance on funding strategies that will help you pay for the projects • Data analysis and site intelligence • Liaison between JobsOhio, economic development partners, and the business community • Provide service supports that include design, cost estimates, and construction to remove barriers for businesses

Current Trends • Non-traditional funding solutions and partners • Movement to competitive funding programs (TIGER, TIDs, etc.) • Inclusion of economic impact in project scoring • Infrastructure tailored to needs of industry - 80% of all new jobs are created by EXISTINGcompanies…generating payroll and sales taxes. • The “build it and they will come” philosophy is expensive and not guaranteed to produce a return. Robust regions and communities are really good at identify the economic impact areas.

Takeaway Points • The ODOT Office of Jobs & Commerce is a rapid response team that specializes in fast-moving projects on the economic development front. • We can assist you to identify transportation funding mechanisms and strategies – ED practitioners and engineers working together! • Your project does not have to be on the ODOT infrastructure – we go anywhere to help facilitate job creation and retention for Ohio workers • We have completed over 200 projects and favorably impacted more than 54,000 jobs. We have partnered in project costs upward of $155 million.
