  1. MINEWATER PROJECT The main objective: To reduce the ecological footprint of ex-mining communities by demonstrating that it is economically viable and environmentally sound to extract geothermal energy from the water in former and closed coal mines on a large scale such that it can be used for district heating and cooling purposes of residential/commercial areas and to disseminate this new renewable energy resource for replication throughout North-Western and Eastern Europe. The Minewaterproject has received European Regional Development Funding through the INTERREG IIIB Community Initiative.

  2. MINEWATER PROJECT • The three sub objectives: • To build new urban areas within old mining communities to improve spatial planning, environmental effects, and economic performance of the area; • To instigate the mine water heating process in other mining areas in the European Union and future European Union countries; • To create a positive image of the heritage of mining communities. The Minewaterproject has received European Regional Development Funding through the INTERREG IIIB Community Initiative.

  6. MINEWATER PROJECT Is it possible to heat and cool (large) city districts with warm minewater, from deep down in the mine? With the Minewaterproject, we‘ll find the answer to that question. If it works, the project will have a substantial impact on the necessary transition from fossil fuel to sustainable clean and non exhaustive energy. Because of innovative character and working-methods, the minewater communities also benefit socio-economically from the project and some old wounds, caused by the closing of the mines, can be healed. Old mines bring new energy in a lot of different ways.
