  1. “. . .So, if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” John 8:36

  2. What Causes Anxiety? • Chemical imbalance in the brain • Emotional or Physical Trauma- Psalm 38 • Sin- I am full of anxiety because of my sin (Ps. 38:18

  3. Who in the Bible had anxiety? • King David, because of his sin. • Jesus’ parents-- we have been searching for you anxiously (Luke 2:48); • Jacob-- Jacob was very afraid and distressed about meeting Esau again (Gen. 32:7); • Pharaoh’s spirit was troubled about dreams he did not understand (Gen. 41:8); • Mary was worried about many things (Luke 10:41); • Paul talked about his anxiety for the churches (2 Cor. 11:28–9)

  4. Anxiety Paralyzes Progress • John 20:19 "The disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish authorities." This was right after Jesus had been crucified. Tremendous things to share, but they're locked in a room because of fear.

  5. Anxiety Ruins Relationships • Man's oldest problem is fear -- all the way back to the very first situation, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Gen. 3:10 Adam says, "I was afraid and I hid from You."

  6. Anxiety Hinders Happiness • Proverbs 12:25 (GN) "Worry can rob you of happiness." David said, "I'm worn out by my worries." • Have you ever been worn out by your worries? Tossing and turning all night? More people are worn out by worry than work, because more people worry than work! It's draining.

  7. It Sabotages Success • Job 3:25, Job says, "Everything I fear and dread comes true." • He's saying that fears can be self-fulfilling prophecies. You can set yourself up. Have you ever said, "I was afraid this would happen!”? Guess what? The Bible says, "As a man thinks, so is he." We can set ourselves up for failure.

  8. How to Break Free from Anxiety

  9. 1. Walk in the Truth • "You will know the truth and the truth will set you free." John 8:32 • "In the full light of God's truth we live . . . " 2 Cor. 4:2 (GN)

  10. Walk in Love • "Love contains no fear -- indeed fully developed love expels every particle of fear, for fear always contains some of the torture of feeling guilty." 1 John 4:18 (Phillips)

  11. Walk in Faith • "Above all be sure to take faith as your shield, for it can quench every burning missile the enemy hurls at you." Eph. 6:16 (Ph) • "When I am afraid, I will put my confidence in God. Yes, I will trust the promises of God." Ps. 56:3 (LB
