  3. 수원화성은?? 수원화성은? 수원 화성은 서쪽으로는 팔달산을 끼고 동쪽으로는 낮은 구릉의 평지를 따라 쌓은 평산성이다. 수원화성은 조선시대에 정조가 지었고, 그의 아버지 장헌세자에 대한 효심에서 화성으로 수도를 옮길 계획을 세우고, 정조 18년(1794)에 성을 쌓기 시작하여 2년 뒤인 1796년에 완성하였다. 성곽의 둘레가 약5.7㎞, 성벽의 높이가 4~6m 정도이다. 실학자인 유형원과 정약용이 성을 설계하고, 거중기 등의 신기재를 이용하여 과학적이고 실용적으로 쌓았다.
