ENGLISH • 4.5 credits required to graduate • Page 29 in Course of Study Book • Select from the following: • If you receive a 3 on your research paper and have a 70% in your current English class, you may schedule: • College Writing – ENG263 AND (one of the following) • English Literature – ENG264 • Shakespeare – ENG265 • Public Speaking – ENG267

  4. ENGLISH • Other English options: • AP English Literature – ENG904 (82% in AP English Language or 92% in English 11) • English 12 – ENG268 (2 on research paper) • Graduation Project Class – will be scheduled if you receive a 0 or 1 on your research paper

SOCIAL STUDIES • 4 credits required to graduate • Page 54 in Course of Study Book • Choose from the following: • US Government - SST562 AND Economics - SST563 • (70% in 11th grade Social Studies) (.5 credits per course) • AP Government and Politics - SST911 • (88% US & PA III, 82% in AP US History) • Applied Government/Economics - SST566

  9. GRADUATION PROJECT • Will be scheduled for this course by your counselor • Will earn .5 credits for project as a senior • Pass or Fail course • Page 69 in Course of Study Book

  12. ALTERNATIVE ELECTIVES • MUST select 2 Alternative Electives • Can select up to 4 • Alternative Electives will be used if one of your choices does not fit in your schedule! Please choose courses that interest you.

  13. AP CLASSES • Opportunity to take Advanced Placement courses in 12th grade • AP classes are college level courses • Please discuss with teacher to decide best placement • NO AP COURSES WILL BE DROPPED IN THE FALL!

  14. COLLEGE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL • College in the High School provides college credit for certain courses Norwin offers. • Have agreements with Seton Hill University and the University of Pittsburgh • Pass the class at Norwin and receive college credit from either Pitt or Seton Hill. • See Page 9 in your Course of Study book for more information and a list of classes that are College in the High School classes.

  15. DUAL ENROLLMENT - IUP • Opportunity to earn college credits • Enroll as a college student in online courses at IUP • Cost for 3 credit course is greatly reduced • Available courses will vary from semester to semester based on what IUP is offering. • If interested in taking a course, please see your counselor for more information.

  16. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES • Available for seniors • Internship opportunities are available based on student interest and business partner availability.  • Examples include Elementary Teacher, Finance/Insurance, Graphic Design, Dentistry, and Cinematography

  17. AIR FORCE JROTC • 4-year program with minimum 120 contact hours per year • Turn-key support, including technology • Schools must teach AF-provided curriculum • 40/40/20 combination of Aerospace Science (AS), Leadership Education (LE) & Wellness – MSC101 (available for 2014-2015)

AIR FORCE JROTC EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES • Color Guard and Drill Teams • Kitty Hawk Air Society • Academic Bowl (SAT/ACT) • Curriculum In Action (Field Trips) • STEM kits • Orienteering • Newsletters/website/AV squad • Air Rifle Competition Teams • Model Rocketry & Radio Controlled Aircraft Clubs • Incentive flights in civilian and CAP aircraft • CyberPatriot: Air Force Association sponsored on-line network-defense competition • Aviation Ground School • Survival Training • Marksmanship • Flight Simulators in Classrooms • Community Service Projects • Fitness competitions • Mentoring/outreach to middle schools *All programs are optional & require principal approval

  19. AIR FORCE JROTC OPTIONAL SUMMER PROGRAMS • Summer Leadership School (SLS) • Unit-hosted camps typically held for 1 week during summer; They are not boot camp --They are a reward! • Teach team building and instill self-confidence • Locally-determined focus: drill, STEM, leadership and more • Your unit may attend an SLS hosted by another unit with school permission • Partially/Totally funded by Air Force • Other Service JROTC/Civil Air Patrol Camps • Top cadets may compete to attend other STEM and leadership camps

IMPORTANT INFORMATION • Each student will participate in a scheduling day tomorrow, Tuesday, January 21st. • Bring your scheduling sheet with you tomorrow. • Please get your teacher to sign off on your scheduling sheet during each class. • Students will return to homeroom at the end of the day to turn in scheduling sheets. • These sheets will be returned to students on Wednesday, January 22nd. • Once they are returned to you, students will be able to schedule courses online at home. • Directions to schedule online at home will be provided when you receive your scheduling sheet on Wednesday. • You are able to schedule online from Wednesday, January 22nd until Sunday, January 26th. • Counselors will begin seeing students individually to review schedule on Monday, January 27th.
