Chapter 1: EQUATIONS Sections 1.1 – 1.3 Solving one-step algebraic equations Algebra 1 – interruptions due to class pictures and Vision/Hearing Screening Quiz Section 1.1 - 1.3 Sections 1.4 – 1.7 Multi-step algebraic equations Solving for a variable within multi-variable formulas or equations Absolute value equations Quiz Sections 1.4 – 1.7 and Review Test 1.1 – 1.7 See Posted Calendar

  2. 1.1a: Translate between words and algebra ? What’s this? WR TE LT LG C RG RT WR QB FB RB

  3. Vocabulary – Pg. 6 in your text What is a variable? Letter or symbol used to represent a value that can change. 3xn+4 q/5 6-p What is a constant? A value that does not change. 3x n+4 q/56-p (the 3 is also called a coefficient)

  4. Vocabulary – Pg. 6 in your text What is a numerical Contains only constants expression? and/or operations. 3+4 10/5 -2(3+7) What is an algebraic May contain variables, expression? constants, and/or operations. 3x+4 n+2

  5. GOAL • Put ‘word problem’ into an algebraic expression and DO THE MATH

  6. For example…… • I sold 3 less tickets than Jenn • J-3 • Timberview scored 3 more runs than MtnRdge • M+3 • 8th grade sold ½ as much as 7th grade • ½ S • Ferrari costs 3x as much as a Mustang • 3M

  7. YOUR TURN • Groups of 4 - 15 minutes – 3 TASKS • Complete posterboard, names on back • Be legible, include many options • Can use book, etc… • For X: “Twice as much = 2n” • Candy for team chosen for wall • Think of one each for the other operations (you can spy) • One each for examples on board
