  1. Drinks Made Using Single Malt Whiskey Real guys, everyone knows, drink single malt whiskey. According to William Faulkner, "There isn't a bad whiskey in the world. Some whiskeys are simply superior to others." Whether you favour Chivas Regal or Johnnie Walker Red, you can prepare a fantastic mixed cocktail with either. (It's just that the word "cocktail" isn't manly enough.) So, if you're not up for a straight shot of Jack Daniels whiskey or just want something different, try one of these recipes PAPPY VAN WINKLE BOURBON Whiskey Sour - There aren't many drinks as basic or classic as this one. In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine 3 parts whiskey, 2 parts fresh lemon juice, and 1 part Gomme syrup. Strain into an ice-filled old-fashioned glass. Serve with a maraschino cherry or an orange slice as a garnish. Another classic cocktail that should not be overlooked is the Manhattan. It's one of the oldest drinks, and it was also one of the first to use vermouth as a modifier. The classic recipe calls for 2 ounces rye whiskey, 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth, and 2-3 dashes of bitters. In a cocktail shaker with ice, combine all of the ingredients and whisk well. Strain into a chilled martini glass with a maraschino cherry as a garnish. Add a splash of dry vermouth to make a dry Manhattan, then garnish with a lemon twist. In a great Manhattan, sweet and dry vermouth are used in equal amounts. Want a taste of the South? Try a mint julep. The Kentucky Derby's customary drink is the Mint Julep, which is served in excess of 80,000 times throughout the race. Muddle the ingredients in a double old- fashioned glass with 4-5 mint sprigs and 1/2 ounce simple syrup. Then fill with crushed ice and 2 1/2 ounces of bourbon. Stir well and serve with a mint sprig as a garnish. Rusty Nail - This mixed drink may not sound pleasant, but it's a fantastic scotch cocktail. You can make this dish more interesting by experimenting with different single malt scotch brands. It's pretty easy to put together. Simply pour 1 1/2 ounces of your favourite scotch and 3/4 ounces of Drambuie over ice in an old-fashioned glass. Stir well and serve with a lemon twist as a garnish. To reduce the sweetness of the drink, use less Drambuie.
