  1. 8.05 WWII Project • A Newspaper template is found on the announcement page at the bottom. You may use this one or create your own in Word, Publisher etc. • You may download several of the templates. I suggest Part A and B have separate template/pages. Part C and D can be on the same template/page. Part E and citations can be on the same template/page. • Part A, B, and D should be written in 3rd person voice. Do not use “I,” “we,” “you” etc. Do not express opinion only present the facts.

  2. Causes to include: EUROPE The weaknesses of the Treaty of Versailles Nationalism/ Expansionism/Fascism on the part of Germany and Italy Appeasement ASIA Japan invading China The U.S. embargo on Japan Please elaborate on each. 8.05

  3. Major Battles: Battle of Bulge, D-Day, Battle for Britain, Stalingrad, Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, Midway, Guadalcanal Please elaborate on each. A brief description needed 8.05

  4. Axis powers: Germany, Italy, Japan Allied powers: U.S., U.S.S.R, Britain, Canada 8.05

Outcomes: U.S. dropped atomic bombs which killed and injured thousands NATO UN Marshall Plan U.S. occupation of Japan Creation of democracies in western Europe and in Japan Communism began in China Devastated economy in Europe and Japan. U.S. economy was kickstarted providing weapons, materials etc. Please elaborate on each briefly. 8.05

  6. 8.05 Part C Letter to the Editor • Use facts to draw conclusions. You may express your opinion. You may use “I,” which is first person voice. Discuss EITHER the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima OR if the U.S. should have dropped a bomb on Auschwitz. • Was Hiroshima a military target? Was the bomb necessary to end the war, or was Japan on the verge of surrender? Would lives have been saved in the long run by bombing Auschwitz?) You must include both sides of the issues, but clearly state what you think the most appropriate course of action was.

  7. 8.05 Part D Women in War • This will be written from a 3rd person voice. Do not use “I” or “you.” Just present the facts without opinion. • How did women contributed to the war effort? Address the contributions of women to the war effort. You are not limited to the role of American or Allied women. You can highlight what Russian or German women did also.

  8. 8.05 WWII Era Ads • You can find these ads online OR design your own with the relevant products that fit with the time. • If you use ads from online please give credit to the site in your citation page.
