  1. How to Build a Retaining Wall

  2. Plan and layout the site

  3. Excavate the site

  4. Tamp the soil level and lay down a paver base

  5. Cut off the top tongue of the base stones, if necessary

  6. Start at the most visible edge of the wall

  7. Cut individual blocks to complete the first layer, if necessary.

  8. Use crushed stone or gravel for backfill on your first layer of blocks

  9. Sweep the first layer with a broom

  10. Add topper stones, if desired

  11. Place topsoil in the basin created by the retaining wall
