  2. In the English language we need to learn 44 sounds (phonemes) using just 26 letters (graphemes). • We teach pure sounds not letter names • By pure sounds we mean s a t not S A T

  6. Tricky words • Your child will also learn sight words. The red ones are known as tricky words as they cannot be sounded out.

  8. BLENDING We teach the children to blend sounds together; “Look at the letter, say the sounds and blend the sounds together.”

  10. Please listen to your child read at least 4 times a week.
