  3. Starter • Read ‘Wealth’ and ‘What is development’ on page 158. • Define wealth. • Copy figure 4.1 into your book.

  6. What is development? Development means change and growth and it is occurring continuously all over the world. It often refers to an increase in wealth for a country and its citizens but it is also associated with improving people’s quality of life or standard of living. Measuring it may include looking at health, education, cultural and political freedom as well as wealth.

  7. Sustainable Development • Read the information on page 159. • Why has much of the development that has occured in France over the last 50 years been unsustainable. Give some examples using the information in the book. • How would you go about sustainably helping out the ‘Glue Kids’ in Kenya?
